On September 8–9, 2026, the team from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vratsa (CCI Vratsa) participated in the final conference and concluding partner meeting for the international project "Reindustrialisation Following the Brownfield is Better than Greenfield Principle" (ReInd-BBG). The major event took place in Novi Sad, Serbia, hosted by local project partners: the City of Novi Sad and the Regional Development Agency "Bačka" (RDA Bačka).
On September 8, the Bulgarian delegation took part in the conference's working program. During the event, leading experts and partners discussed a range of topical issues, including:
- The revitalization of abandoned industrial sites (brownfields) as a key driver for sustainable territorial development;
- The role and significance of brownfields within the context of the Territorial Agenda 2030 and current European Union policies;
- Key findings, reports, and analyses derived from the comprehensive mapping carried out under the ReInd-BBG project;
- The specific characteristics and the need for a tailored approach regarding the redevelopment of various types of industrial sites. During the conference, the Municipality of Vratsa officially presented the project's Bulgarian pilot site the Student Campus in Vratsa, sharing best practices and the challenges associated with the site's regeneration.
On the second day of the international meeting (September 9), participants visited the Serbian pilot site in the city of Sombor "Agrosavez" where they explored a successful example of transforming a former industrial site into a modern marketplace that plays a vital role in the local economy. The site now has a clear development trajectory as a modern business zone; future plans include the construction of a business incubator, a cold storage facility, a market, and an agricultural wholesale center.
The final partner meeting concluded with a summary of the lessons learned from years of collaboration. Participants agreed that the project partnership has laid a solid foundation for future joint initiatives and new projects beyond the scope of ReInd-BBG, all aimed at the green transition and the economic revitalization of the regions.
